Hon. Joshua Angelei, an advocate and aspiring Member of Parliament for Turkana East in 2027, has strongly condemned the brutal killing of Turkana residents by suspected Pokot bandits, describing the attack as “a barbaric and senseless act of violence that continues to rob innocent people of their lives and livelihoods.”
According to reports, several residents were killed and others injured following a bandit attack along the Turkana–Pokot border. The incident has reignited fear among residents and disrupted peace efforts that had begun to take shape in the region. While addressing community members and local media, Hon. Angelei expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and urged both the national and county governments to take immediate action to protect innocent civilians and restore calm in the affected areas.
“The continued loss of lives in Turkana East is unacceptable. No community should live in fear within their own homeland. The government must act decisively to end these attacks, arrest the perpetrators, and restore confidence among our people,” said Hon. Joshua Angelei.

He further condemned the persistent insecurity and cattle rustling that have derailed development and forced many families to live as internally displaced persons. Hon. Angelei emphasized that the right to life and security is a fundamental constitutional guarantee that must be upheld for all Kenyans.
“Banditry is not only a criminal act; it is a human rights violation. It disrupts education, trade, and the future of our children. The state must strengthen intelligence, increase patrols, and ensure that justice is delivered swiftly,” he added.
Hon. Angelei called for the lifting of the curfew imposed in Kainuk, arguing that the restriction has severely hurt local businesses and trade activities that sustain the livelihoods of many residents.
“The curfew in Kainuk, though introduced for security reasons, is now doing more harm than good. It has crippled business operations, limited transport, and deepened poverty among hardworking citizens. We must explore alternative security measures that do not punish the very people we are trying to protect,” Hon. Angelei stated.

He urged the government to adopt community-based peacebuilding approaches, promote cross-border dialogue, and invest in joint development programs that unite communities rather than divide them.
“Our focus should shift from hostility to harmony — from conflict to cooperation. We must replace the sound of gunfire with the sound of progress,” said Hon. Angelei.
Hon. Joshua Angelei concluded by sending heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to promoting peace, justice, and sustainable development in Turkana East.
